Yanks win 8 out of 10

The Yankees have won 8 out of 10.

Of course, they’ve also lost two straight. I know that some of you think I’m some sort of Donald downer but you have to admit that if the playoffs started tomorrow you would be as nervous as a Freshman on his first date.

I admit I was afraid to post any blog posts during the streak because I didn’t want to jinx it. I admit that I was and am hopeful. I also admit that in the middle of that hopefulness is cold hard fear and trepidation.

Look at the streak wins.  They were 7-5, 7-3, 5-0, 4-3, 9-3, 11-5, *2-1, and 12-9. One game where we only put a few runs on the board and still won. Heck look back through August. Those games look like this:

L 4-9
L 3-6
W 11-5
*L 2-3
W 10-0
W 9-5
L 0-6
W 11-5
W 9-5
W 6-2
*L 1-3
*L 0-1
W 8-3
*L 3-4
*W 4-3
W 7-6
*L 3-4
*L 1-2
W 7-2
W 5-2
L 3-6
W 5-1
L 2-8
L 6-8
L 0-3

Get mad at me, tell me I’m crazy all you want but the 2010 Yankees lose too many close games.  Simply put, the pitching is questionable. They are winning because they are scoring a lot of runs. They’re run differential is impressive. I get it.

A-Rod got his 100th RBI. That’s good. Jeter is clutch. Sabathia is out of this world.  Andy will be golden when he returns. I hope all of that is true. I hope that they don’t have to win a lot of 2-3 and 1-0 games but I’ll say this, if we’re going into the 6th with a one run lead and the other team’s pitcher is handling us I’m going to be nervous.

The Yankees strategy has been to win in the late innings for years. Wear the starting pitcher down and get into the other guy’s bullpen. That’s a solid strategy and it works well. Unfortunately, it also works against the Bronx bombers.
