Joe West has to be fined and suspended. He recently came out and decided that his country singing isn’t enough for his voice. He needed to use his voice to criticize the Yankees and Red Sox. Not for the way they play, well that’s not true. For Joe, they just don’t play fast enough.
Almost every player has reacted to this point with something to the effect that this is a guy that almost always seems to want to be somewhere besides the baseball field when he’s working a game. I’ve written before how I think Joe and Angel Hernandez tend to goad managers and players into arguments and go looking for fights. Here’s what he had to say
“They’re the two clubs that don’t try to pick up the pace,” said West, chief of the umpiring crew that worked the three-game series in Boston. He was the home plate umpire Sunday. “They’re two of the best teams in baseball. Why are they playing the slowest?
“It’s pathetic and embarrassing. They take too long to play.”
Can you imagine if a player came out and criticized an umpire with that kind of language? Major League Baseball would have a fine and at least a 5 game suspension waiting for that player or manager.

I’m with West. Speeding up games has been one of the things baseball has been very concerned about the last few years. And those two teams are the worst. The comments may have been out ot line, but they are true.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. You may be right about the length of games, but that misses the point of this post. Joe West shouldn’t be allowed to talk badly about baseball teams. It’s not his job. His job is to umpire games and never be heard from except during a game.
Personally, I think that Joe and you are wrong. I think that Joe is taking an overly simplistic view of how the game of baseball works and have offered at least 9 reasons why he is wrong. 9 Reasons Why Joe West is wrong
