Roy Oh Boy

Have you heard? Roy Oswalt went to the Phillies! My oh my! Roy oh Boy. I had two thoughts about this.

My first thought was, “Well, I wonder if the Philly fans will start crying about “buying” a championship now. Of course, they won’t. They won’t stop and cry for the Pirates or the Astros.

My second thought was, “Who Cares.” He doesn’t make them all that much better. I know, I know it’s Roy-freaking-Oswalt. I’m sure he’s a great guy. I’m sure he loves God, country, baseball and his wife. I’ve heard how his Dad is a hard working logger that still works. This isn’t about Roy, this is about the Phillies. Did they really need a starting pitcher? I realize that they are only 2.5 games out as of this writing.  But Oswalt only gets them one more win than they probably would have gotten anyhow according to the sabermetric stuff.

Of course, that misses the point. The Phillies problems this season are not starting pitching. It’s the bullpen. Roy, Roy and Cole aren’t going to be able to pitch 9 innings every game.  Don’t get me wrong, I think Roy is awesome and he makes the Phillies better. I’m just not quite ready to give them the WS ring yet.
