George Will and Joe West Drinking the same Drink…

Yesterday (Sunday, The 11th), Gorge Will was on MLB Network George Will was interviewed about the length of games. George dropped a beautiful load of illogicality.  George said something to the effect that Joe West worked the plate at an Orioles game the night before and the game only went 2 hours and some odd minutes (I think it was under 2.5 but I don’t want to pay for the transcript of the interview).  Then Georgie gave us a beautiful throw away line. He said, “The final score was 3-0.”

George, maybe you should go back to writing articles debunking Global Warming.

9 Reasons Joe West Is Wrong

In my conversations about Joe West and his inappropriate comments I am hearing a lot of “I agree with him.”

But that misses the point of my post on why Joe should be suspended. The point isn’t whether or not we agree with Joe, the point is that MLB has had a long standing policy of not allowing players or managers to talk badly about umpires, even when everyone including the umpires end up agreeing with them. Managers have been fined and suspended for much less.  This isn’t about whether or not anyone thinks the games need to be faster (personally, I think that idea is laughable and very reactionary) but whether or not anyone can make disparaging remarks about other members of the MLB fraternity. To this point, MLB home office has said no.

Racism and Baseball

So last week Milton Bradley came out and said that the reason he so underperformed (and single handedly killed my OF’s in fantasy baseball) was due to racism in Chicago.
This angered a lot of people. One talk show on the Four Letter Self Proclaimed World Wide Leader (all of the other four letter words were taken) had commentators, hosts that were so irate I could hear their tirade down the hall from where my T.V. was on.
Then Tori Hunter came out and said that Latin players were not black players. The actual quote is this according to the 4 letter word station

Great Quote #2

“If you’re a Yankee fan, or if you’re not a Yankee fan – you have to admit, we’re winners.”

Joe Nathan is Done For the Season

Joe Nathan reportedly has a tear of the ligaments in his elbow. This will most likely end his season. It may or may not crush the Twins chances to win the Central.

Nathan is a premier closer. One of the best, especially during the regular season but the Twins may have the personell to step up and fill his role. This wouldn’t be the first time that in the presence of tragedy a young player has stepped up and done incredible things.

Only time will tell. For now, the Tigers and White Sox have to be somewhat breathing a sigh of relief today.

Favorite Yankees of This Era

A friend of mine recently wrote me with his list of favorite players at each person for what he defined as “our era” (’90 through today).   Here’s my list. Note, this is not a list of who I think is the best, simply who I like the best.

Money Doesn’t Buy Rings; The Yankees are Just Better

As a Yankee fan, I’m used to people hating on the Yankees.

I get it.

People hate winners and want to blame winners for their own team’s misery.

I know a guy on Facebook that I have thought about deleting because every time I bring up the Yanks, he gripes about how MLB is broken.

Whining is whining. It’s annoying when a three-year-old does it because he perceives something isn’t fair and it’s annoying when a grown man does it about baseball.

Who Are The Best Managers in Baseball

I’ve been having quite a few fun talks with friends over who the best managers in baseball currently are. Perhaps, one of the best qualities of baseball is the natural ability to debate everything about it.

There has to be some guidelines to follow such as they have to have some experience. Girardi’s out because he only has three total years (although I don’t think he’d make the top five even he was eligible). They have to be currently managing.  So here’s my top 10.

#10. Cito Gaston. Just because he’s managing a team that isn’t that good doesn’t mean  he should be diminished on this list.
