The umpires this year are awful. If I hear one more sports writer from the four letter word station tell me how bad umpires have always been part of the game I’m going to bean someone like Roger threw at Kobe, or Colt or whatever the heck he named his kid.
In the bottom of the 7th of today’s game. Brett Gardner took a pitch that was called a strike. He stepped back, made a comment, the umpire said something back. Brett replied and then the umpire threw him out. Jeter could be seen saying, “That’s terrible.”
This follows Girardi’s ejection last night that was completely uncalled for and a reaction by an officiating crew that needs to be broken up and sent back to the minors. MLB has a serious problem with umpires more inconsistent than politicians looking to re-elected. They’re making terrible calls and when they get called on them they are tossing people left and right.
What happened to umpires having thick skin? I’m not saying they need to endure someone kicking dirt on them or dropping the magic words but today and yesterday there were no magic words, there was no dirt kicked. No chest bumping or contact of any kind happened.
It’s time for MLB to hold umpires to the same standard that they would hold players. This is getting ridiculous.
Of course, this story worked out OK, Curtis hit a home run. The Yankees took a five run lead and as I am typing this Joba is finishing off the Angels in the top of the 8th.
