Any Time You Pass Babe Ruth

Any time you pass Babe Ruth on any list that’s a good thing. Of course, Jeter did it this weekend. Despite the fact that I worked crazy hours I was able to see it happen live on TV.

It brings up an interesting question to me, where does Jeter rank? Not just where does he rank as a short stop but where does he rank as Yankee? Of all organizations, the Yankees have had enough greats to fill volumes of books.

The shortstop position is a heralded one. It has a history filled with legends and lore. If A-Rod hadn’t moved he most assuredly would have been the greatest to have ever played the position. But he moved and truthfully, Jeter isn’t the best SS ever. I would argue that he’s in the top five, maybe the top three.

Where does he fit as an all time Yankee? Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, DiMaggio all have to be ahead of him.  It’s probably an argument that will go round and round and never be solved. It’s what makes for fun conversation on  cool summer nights with an iced beverage and a lit cigar.

Where do you think he fits?
