What if you were commissioner?

I’ve been traveling a lot on a mini vacay with my wife this weekend. We did the Brickyard so my posting will suffer until Tuesday but I am excited to start a new series called If I were commissioner. I’m going to throw some wild ideas to you on how the game of MLB can be improved.

I think it’s important to make a distinction between the game of MLB and baseball. One must evolve and adapt to make money while the other is a gift passed down from generation to generation. Personally, I think the game is pretty darn good as is, but it seems that every one thinks stuff needs to be fixed. So we’re going to talk about the “time problem” and I’m going to offer you a couple of ideas on how to fix it. We’re going to about coolers and snacks. Do we really need middle relief? I’m going to mess with sacred cows. I promise you that.

But what I want to know from you is two fold.

  1. What do you think needs fixed in baseball?
  2. What would you do if you were commissioner of MLB?

Leave some comments here. Please be more creative than we need a salary cap. That’s the one thing I wouldn’t do and I honestly believe the numbers back me up. Besides neither the owners or MLBPA is going to allow that. Feel free to argue for it but it needs to be well reasoned. :)
