Dan Haren to the Yankees?

CBSsports.com is reporting that the Yankees are close to acquiring Dan Haren. The report is pretty bare of any details. I wonder if Haren can pitch in NY. Of course, I wonder if any pitcher can pitch in NY before he actually does. I also hope that they don’t give up too much to get him only to have him become another Pavano. I mean the past deals with Arizona haven’t actually been smashing. Any remember a tall lefthander?

To me the most interesting aspect of this would be what does it mean for next year? Haren would be under contract for at least two years. Would the Yankees still go after Cliff Lee in the off season? I imagine the answer is yes. Signing him , I would imagine would signal the end of Any Pettitte’s career as a Yankee. I mean, you’d have CC, Burnett, Haren, Lee, and Hughes. It would seem that Pettitte would be the odd man out. Of course, this year may have been his last anyhow.

If Haren can actually do his thing and not wilt under the glare of NY lights like a week old Wal-Mart bouquet of flowers the Yankees could be immensely better and will continue to be good for a long time.
