The Yankees are rolling but…

The Yankees are rolling tonight and as I’m writing this it would seem that they are going to win easily. But hear me out…

It seems to me that this team has a bad pattern; namely it wins when it scores a lot or runs.

Right now they are hitting everything that moves and driving it far. Joba’s throwing 95+, CC is going to get the win stopping yet another Yankee losing streak of 2 or more in a row.

But…

Tex left the game with a bruised thumb.

CC gave up 5 runs tonight.

The Yanks lose 2 of 3 and I blame Cashman

I know I’ve been hammering Cashman all year and tonight’s not going to be any different. We lost this series and I know that there are injuries, but I blame Cashman. You know who made the last out of the game?
Curtis Granderson, he of the .250 batting average.

Guess who moved to the pen this week?

Javier Vazquez.

You remember him. I was killing the trade to get him two months ago and what was I told? I was told that it was way too early to judge that trade. What did we get out of that trade? Nothing.
I’m not too proud to say, “Well, I was right” or “I told you so.”

9 Things I Thought About While The Yankees Lost 21-7.

  1. Yankees lose 21-7. Of course, they didn’t actually lose that badly. They only lost 3-1 but the game went over three hours and I get sick of people telling me how low the scoring is. Of course, it’s the same amount of scores.
  2. The Yankees just look dog tired. The bats are so cold that I think they could chill the beverages. They just look slow and tired.

The Royals cost the Yankees big

The Yankees lose two out of three to the Royals. Let me repeat that, the Yankees lost two out of three to the ROYALS!!!

This one should be filed under the, “this should never happen category.” Sure, they still own first place but coming off the debacle that was the trip in Texas, the Yanks need to put away teams like the Royals.

When you get down to the end of the season, you don’t want the difference between you and the other team coming down to the fact that they beat the bad teams and you didn’t. There are AAA teams that could be the Royals.

Berkman, A-Rod and Burnett

So I’m starting to like Lance Berkman less and less. The Yankees won a good one today. they dealt with the Red Sux as you would think they should.

But A-Rod didn’t play. Why, you ask? Because Berkman hit him during  batting practice. Now, we could blame Joe Buck. The story goes as I understand it that A0Rod was sauying hi to Buck when Berkman hit the ball. Then he rolled around clutching his calf.
Could you imagine if this happened before #600?

Girardi Makes His Case for Boneheaded Move of the Year Award

Sometimes, you can just be too daggone smart for your own good.  The Yankees proved that tonight, losing to the Red Sox 6-3.

Now there was nothing in the game per se that supports my argument. Well, besides the fact that Javier Vazquez was pitching in a big game and I’ve been killing his inability to pitch in big games so there’s no need to stop now. I know, I know he hasn’t been that bad most of the season.

Well, You Can’t Say You Weren’t Warned

The Yankees lost again tonight. And the offense looked worse than anemic, it looked like the Republican PR machine during the last Presidential election.

Of course, the defense looked more porous than my wife’s humus rocks. Giving up runs like they were doing a charity dance. Now, it would be easy to say that I warned you. It would be easy to say that I said, A-Rod’s home run chase would become a distraction because, well I did say that.

You can’t say you weren’t warned.

Trade Deadline Thoughts. It’s about potential

So the trade deadline has come and gone. The Yankees were extremely active.  But are they better than they were two weeks ago?

The simple answer is yes. We’re certainly not worse. Every player we got, we got for a song and a dance. I actually heard a guy on the radio today moaning and complaining about the unfairness of the Yankees situation.

Here’s the thing, Berkman, Kearns, and Wood are not the players most people probably think of when they first hear the names. They are serviceable. They will do steady work. They may even get really hot at some point in the next three months. But they don’t make the Yankees significantly better. What these acquisitions do more than anything else is keep these players off of the Rays and Red Sox.

Ah July. Yanks/Rays Here we go

2 things:

1. Buck Showalter who hates the Yankees was hired as the Orioles manager. I love that he’s in their division and that he’s on a terrible team that will get hammered by them this year. He’s a good manager but has a bit of a grudge for how things ended in NY.

2. The Yanks/Rays series that starts tonight will be really interesting. 2.5 games  back the Rays have been tearing the cover off of  the ball and their pitching has been fantastic. This series will go a long way towards setting the tone for the rest of the season. Get your popcorn ‘cuz you know there’s going to be a show. :)

5 Burning Questions

So, I found this article on Bleacher Report today and figured I’d throw my own answers out here.

1. Who has been the best player in the AL East?

-This has to be Cano. The man has been spreading the ball around the field like a farmer fertilizing his fields.

2. And the most disappointing?

-I think this is Joba. The man is more inconsistent than a politician looking for re-election.

3. Who will win the division? And the Wild Card?
